Executive Director/Staff Leadership Search
In addition to executive director search, other services launched in 2020 include Strategic Planning for Individuals and Mini Strategic Planning. Please get in touch with me if you’re interested in these planning services. I’d love to hear from you.
Read on and contact me today if you are anticipating or planning a transition at your organization and would like to discuss assistance with an executive director/staff leadership search.
What is my approach to Executive Director Search?
Last week I published a Guide to Executive Director Search. Take a look at the post and let me know if I might be a good fit for your organization’s style and budget. My approach to this work is to assist the board of directors, explore new models for staff leadership, and to treat everyone with dignity and respect. My consulting practice has primarily served smaller to mid-sized nonprofits that are rooted in social justice, and I plan to continue this approach with executive director searches.
How does it work?
If you are interested in assistance with an executive director search, contact me and we’ll schedule a phone conversation or short coffee/tea meeting via video chat. I complete a form that helps me understand what you and your organization are looking for and your timeline. I then draft a proposal for your review. If you decide you want to go for it, I write a Letter of Agreement (or use your organization’s contract template).
An executive director search takes three to four months from start to finish, with optional added time for planning and engagement before launching the search, and orientation after the staff leader(s) are hired. .
How much does it cost?
An Executive Director search costs in the range of $5,000 to $15,000.
Additional services may include board planning, staff and community engagement, and executive director orientation. These services can be added for additional costs, depending on your organization’s needs and resources.
***I offer a sliding scale for an executive director/staff leadership search. If your organization does not have resources for this, I will work with you to figure out a fair cost and payment plan.
How is Amy Brugh Consulting different than a search firm?
I assist a nonprofit board of directors with their search. I call myself a search administrator.
I sometimes assist a board with their search when serving in an interim executive director role.
I facilitate planning and decision-making; assist board’s with engaging their staff and community; manage the application process, interviews, and timeline; help with documentation; and provide guidance on orientation.
I do not set the organization’s leadership philosophy, select the executive director, nor determine their compensation.
I prioritize working with smaller organizations that may have more limited resources.
How do we get started?
