Executive Director School is a cohort-based training program for aspiring, new, or established executive directors* of small to medium nonprofit organizations in Minnesota.
[*executive director is just a term, it also refers to roles such as staff leader, co-executive director, CEO, or whatever else you might use}
The purpose of Executive Director School is for nonprofit leaders to:
establish and convey their own leadership style and approach
increase knowledge, skills, and experience for running a nonprofit organization
build relationships with other nonprofit leaders
Executive Director School is for:
aspiring executive directors: those who are considering stepping into a nonprofit executive director role
new executive directors: those who have been in their executive director role for up to two years, have the basics down yet are still growing into their leadership role, and want to learn from others
established executive directors: those who are experienced executive directors wanting to refresh their leadership, learn new tips and tricks, and share conversation with other experienced leaders
Executive Director School includes these modules:
Leadership Approach and Style
Workplace Culture, Staff Development and Management
Board Liaison and Partnership
Finance and Admin
Fundraising
Optional individual session with Amy
Future cohorts of Executive Director School may be expanded to include other modules such as:

Course Mode, Methods and Delivery:
Executive Director School is held via Zoom. There may be in-person opportunities depending on the cohort and for an individual session with Amy.
The course includes modules prepared and presented by Amy, interactive opportunities with participants, and guest “experts.”
Participants in an Executive Director School cohort will learn from “experts” and from each other. We will develop relationships along the way. Adjustments may be made based on the cohort.
Executive Director School is in real time, it’s not asychronous nor is it didactic.
Workbook, samples and templates:
Executive Director School includes a workbook. The workbook includes basic samples and templates for each module with prepared content and options to tailor the specifics for your own role and organization.
Cost:
The cost of Executive Director School is $750 for five weekly modules of 2 hours each. There is an option to add an additional individualized session for $250.
There is a sliding scale for Executive Director School. Participants may choose where they land on the scale below. Ability to pay will not be a factor to participation in Executive Director School. Prospective participants are encouraged to register and pay what they are able.
$750 (cost of course)
$500 (reduced cost)
$1,000 (for those who are able to pay more to support others’ participation)
The next Executive Director School will be offered in the fall of 2024, mostly likely on Friday mornings in October and November.
